 Annual Conference Chair's Letter:

Welcome to the 2014 NASW-MN annual conference. This year we will focus on radical inclusion, remembering that all people matter, even when there changes in the service delivery landscapes. With the affordable care act becoming a reality, we know as social workers we have the values, skills and knowledge to manage the new care realities. Our challenge and goal is to highlight our profession and advocate for our inclusion at the table. To this end, our keynote speaker is the executive director of NASW National, Angelo McClain, PhD, LICSW. He will be addressing challenges and opportunities for the social work profession as we address the changing landscapes of the 21st century. Several respondents will address his comments during this engaging plenary session. Arrive early, grab a bite of breakfast, and enjoy music and performances by Interact who will be providing entertainment before our first session begins.

As in the last year, we will have a job book available for your employment searches.  To help meet licensing requirements, the conference will also include breakout sessions on supervision and ethics. Some post-tests will be available for those participants who are working towards clinical licensure. Stay for the two days and earn a third of your bi-yearly CEH’s. As usual, breakout sessions will focus on many forms of practice; policy, generalist, beginner, advanced and clinical. On Friday afternoon we are planning on having statewide candidates discuss the issues of the election and we will cap off our two-day gala with the ethics plenary featuring Gary Schoner who will present on the ethics of electronic communications in our practices. Please come to commune with your colleagues, learn, earn CEH’s and make this year a celebration of social work in Minnesota!

For those who tweet, we will be networking using twitter during the conference, @NASWMN. Please follow us for updates and commentary on the conference.

BARBARA LEHMANN, Annual Conference Planning Committee Chair
